WAGES REDUCTION

BOROUGH EMPLOYEES. ‘ 1 CUTS' ’ UP TO 10 PER CENT. Last night, in eomniittec, tlie Borough Council dealt with the question of a reduction in the rates of pay to Borough employees. There were present:—The Mayor (Mr T. Jordan) and ■Crs. O’Leary, Saunders, Russell, Free, Peacock, Beetham, Jenkins, Low, White and Ripp.on. An apology for absence was received from Cr. Murray. The council reduced the wages and salaries of all employees, with the exception of a few of the lower paid outside staff, by ten per cent. The wages of those not included in the ten per £* n t. reduction are to be reduced by jailer amounts. The reductions arc lo take effect after next pay day. Employees governed by awards and the park staff are to have their wages reduced as follow:—Those receiving £4 per week to be reduced by Id per hour, those receiving £4 (is 2d by ltd per hour and the remainder by ten per cent., the reduction not to apply to car allowance made-to officers.
