CAWNPORE RIOTS.
CREATE TENSE ATMOSPHERE. Press Association Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received Wednesday, 5.35 a.m.) CALCUTTA, Tuesday. The recent Cawnpore riots, which were far worse than at first reported, have created a tense atmosphere between Hindus and Moslems. Gandhi declares his readiness to advise Hindus to concede practically all the Moslem demands for joint electorates in the new constitution if the community becomes united. The European view favours separate electorates as the best guarantee of peace. MAGISTRATE WOUNDED. (Received Wednesday, 9.30 a.m.) DELHI, Tuesday. James Peddie, Magistrate at Midnapore, was wounded five times "with revolver shots on visiting the Midnaporo school. No arrests have yet been made.
