PALESTINE.
BRITISH MANDATE. DEVELOPMENT OP COUNTRY. RUGBY, Monday. A White Paper has been issued by the Government on the British policy in Palestine, after consideration of the Simpson report, which is issued simultaneously. The statement, after making it clear that the path laid down in the mandate will be carried out, intimates that two battalions of infantry will be retained in Palestine, and, in addition, two squadrons of aircraft and four sections of armoured cars in Palestine and Trans-Jordania. A Legislative Council will be set up in Palestine, consisting of the High Commissioner and twenty-two members, of whom ten will be official and twelve unofficial. The report then proceeds to deal with the social and economic development of the country, and to justify the Government’s suspension of Jewish immigration.
