The Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe left Wellington this morning (Monday) to pay their first official visit to the borough of Hastings and to attend the Royal Agricultural Show, which his Excellency will officially open on Wednesday. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington by the Napier express on Thursday next. On October 30 their Excellencies will visit Carterton, and on the following daywill leave Wellington for official visits to Picton and Blenheim, returning to Government House, Wellington, on November 4. Mr F. G. Maunsell, of Masterton, is expected to return to New Zealand today, by the Frisco mail steamer. It was stated in error in our day’s issue that Mrs S. L. P. to accompany her husband, Mr S. L.A, Pi Free, to America. J The death occurred at the Dunedin Hospital yesterday morning of the Rev. T. W. Newbold, Methodist Minister, who has occupied charges in many centres throughout the Dominion. The funeral of the late Mr Bert Church took place in Wellington yesterday afternoon, being largely attended and including .a number of mourners from Masterton. The pallbearers were members of the staff of Munt Cotterell and Co. Mr C. M. Bowden left Masterton this morning for the South Island to attend the Associated Chambers of Commerce Conference at The Hermitage, Mt. Cook, which will commence on Wednesday, October 22. Mr Bowden is a member of the executive. (

The engagement is announced of Marjorie McCormack, daughter of 'Mr and Mrs 0. M. McCormack, of East Jefferson Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A., to Mr Awarua Patrick Joseph George, youngest son of the late Re. t Hon. Sir Joseph Ward and Lady Ward, of Wellington. The marriage will take place early next month. The Rev. Father Mark O’Leary, Marist missioner (formerly of Masterton) arrived in Wellington from Auckland on Saturday. Yesterday morning he opened the mission to be conducted by the Marist Fathers at St. Mary of the Angels, Bouleott Street. Father O’Leary for the past five years has been preaching similar missions throughout Australia. Lord Stonehaven and party arrived at Rotorua from Wellington on Saturday, en route from Frankton, and inspected the dairy factory at Waharoa.In the afternoon the party visited Whakarewarewa, the fairy springs and the hatcheries. Yesterday Lord Stone- j haven visited the Government planta- { tions and other features of interest. ’ He is much impressed with what he has seen.

St. Luke’s Church, Greytown, was the scene of a pretty wedding recently, ■when Thelma Agnes, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs F. A: Waite, was married to Jack Avelyn, third son of Mrs H. S. Brooks l and the late Mr H. S. Brooks, of Greytown. The Rev. D. J. Davies officiated. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a frock of marine blue satin, with a slim fitting bodice, long tight sleeves, finished with lace to tone, and a full flared skirt, falling softly to the ankles. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies. Her large beige picture hat was worn off the face, with clusters' of delicately tinted flowers on and under the brim. Lemon georgette, patterned in autumn tones, was worn by the bride’s sister, Miss Aileen White, who was bridesmaid; her frock . had a long scalloped bodice, with a } flared skirt, falling gracefully to the ' ankles. The waist wasi finished with a narrow belt and diamante buckle, and she wore a beige picture hat and carried a bouquet of Iceland poppies and autumn tints. The little flower girl, niece of the bride, wore a dainty frock of pastel pink erepe-de-chine, panelled in gold lace. She also wore a hat of soft straw and earned a tiny basket of autumn-tinted flowers. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr Leo Brooks, of Masterton.
