HONOURS BOARD.

In a great many of the public schools of England, and in a number in New Zealand, there is to be found an Honours Board, not associated in any way with those who gave their lives for their country in the Great War, or the South African war, or in any conflict in which Britain was concerned. The Honours Board of which we are speaking has reference to the scholastic achievements of a pupil. For instance, the Honours Board would contain the names of those pupils who won important scholarships or other honours in the course of their educational studies, or of the child who each year was the dux of the school. We think that the public schools of Masterton should have such an Honours Board erected in a conspicuous place in the school, and especially so does this apnly to the Masterton Central School, which has turned out some of the most brilliant scholars in the Dominion, who have achieved high honours. Then, from another point of view, it would be fitting for a father or mother to take their child on a visit to their old school and point out their names on the School Honours Board as an inspiration to the child to follow the example of the parents. We commend the proposal to the committeemen and teachers of the local schools as one that is closely associated with the life of their schools, and which will insnire other pupils to accomplish that which brilliant scholars of former days had achieved.
