BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
To carry on its excellent work in the town, the Masterton Beautifying Society requires funds, and it is chiefly by the holding of carnivals or similar functions that money can he raised for beautifying purposes. It would be a pity to allow the year to pass, away without some function being held in aid of the funds, because the Society has the strong support of the public, who would give financial assistance to any undertaking to gather in money for further beautifying efforts. It was pointed out at the meeting of the Society this week that, owing to she period of depression being experienced, the present would not be an opportune time to hold a carnival on a large scale. That may be so, but ‘some function, such as a cabaret, should be undertaken. The life of any voluntary organisation depends to a large extent upon the enthusiasm of the members, and the keeping of its objects before the public. What better method could be adopted in this connection than the holding of' an entertainment of some sort for the laudable purpose of increasing the Society’s revenue, so that Masterton may be made still more beautiful as the result of the activities of that body.
