QUESTION BEING SHELVED. COMMISSION’S JOB FINISHED. "When it was stated at the Progress League Council meeting.yesterday that the Railways Commission’s report had been handed to Cabinet without evidence being taken in regard to the Rimutaka Deviation, as promised by the Prime Minister, some candid comment was made by members.

In opening the question, Mr W. L. Prepaid that, although the report had been handed in, the secretary had had information from Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., that the matter would be one for a special report by the Commission.

“I told him that we thought we had been father shabbily treated, in view of Prime Minister’s promise,” saidßJr T. Jordan, who had been infori&ed 'by Mr Sykes in Wellington on the/previous day that the Commission evidence independently frorja the heads of departments. “I said that we expected to be heard on the matter,” added Mr Jordan. The secretary said that Mr Sykes had assured him that a special report was to be made by the Commission. Mr T. F. Watson thought that once theM^ommission’s report was handed in its job would be done.

“When the question was referred to the Commission in the first place, I was under the impression that it was being shelved,” said Mr Jordan.

On the motion of Mr Jordan, it was decided to communicate with the Act-ing-Prime Minister, drawing his attention to the promise made by the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, to a deputation, and also asking what steps were being taken to carry out the Prime Minister ?s promise.
