NON-STOP RECORD.

NEW YORK TO MEXICO. Press Aeiociation-Electrio Xelearanh-CoorrigW CITY, Sunday. Colonel Fierro has completed a nonstop flight from New York, a distance of 2200 miles, in 16 4 hours 35 minutes, bettering Colonel Lindbergh’s time by eleven hours, in a flight from Washington to Mexico City in 1927, which was, however, not a non-stop flight.

SOUTHERN CROSS VENTURE.

NEW YORK, Saturday.

Arrangements have been made for the utilisation of a special ’plane used for the recent refuelling non-stop flight here to refuel the Southern Cross when it nears American shores.

It may await the approach of the trans-Atlantic ’plane at Nova Scotia or Maine.

The machine will carry 100 gallons of petrol and will add three hundred miles to the range of the Southern Cross.^

FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA. EFFORT TO BEAT RECORD. . LONDON, Saturday. , It has just been reported that James Matthews, formerly a mechanic to Hinkler, accompanied by a rich young man named Hook, secretly left Lympne at dawn on Friday in an attempt to beat Hinkler’s record flight to Australia. • The machine is not fitted with wireless. Matthews and Hook only arrived at Lympne on Thursday night, and arranged to leave at dawn in a Moth ’plane named “Dryasel. ” The heavy petrol store made taking-off difficult. The pair expect to reach India in five days. Both men hold pilots’ certificates, but their actual flying experience is not extensive.
