BOXING.

EASY WIN FOR STRIBLING. NEW YORK, Saturday. Stribling (13st. 441 b) knocked out Von Porat (list 71b) in the first of a scheduled ten ronds bout at Chicago. Stribling, despite recent complaints of a “bruised hand,” handled Von Porat easily.

The twenty-one thousand spectators who wero present favoured the winner, but did not expect such a quick victory. Von Porat clinched and missed his blows, while Stribling bore in with repeated lefts to the face, head and stomach, and an occasional right to the face.

Stribling’a victory was easily the most noteworthy of his career. He showed great cleverness and tied up his opponent with body blows and hammered his jaw until he dropped flat on his back, and lay there without a move while he was counted out.

Shack fought on the defensive throughout and hardly one cleanly connecting blow was struck during the contest.
