BEAUTIFYING MASTERTON.

(To the Editor).

Sir, —Quite a lot of work can be found in Masterton by individual owners of business premises if they would only look around their back premises and put a man on now and then to tidy their places up. Recently the management of the W.F.'C.A. made a beauty spot of an old eyesore in Queen street; also a beauty spot has been mado by this firm in Chapel street by putting back and renovating its Stock Departmetn -buildings. The owner of the Arcade Buildings and the property on which the Plunket Rooms have been erected, has also ntade a beauty spot of this portion of Queen and Chapel streets. But just alongside the latter building there is a very great eyesore. I refer to an old wire fence- between the furniture factory and the Plunket Rooms. This is an offence to the eyes of anybody who passes along. Chapel street —an old, rusty wire fence, with grass growing through, . old - packing cases half full of rotten packing, a harbour for vermin. I think if the Furniture Department was to put on one man for a day to clean this rubbish heap up, it would add considerably to the appearance of that portion of Masterton. At present it is not in keeping with the beauty spot alongside. I hope members of the unemployed will approach those responsible for this with a view of getting some work. Thanking you for space. —I am, etc., TIDY.
