FIRST AID.

An institution that is deserving of warm support in Masterton is the St. John Ambulance Brigade. The Brigade is to be commended, for its policy of giving free instruction in first aid. As the secretary pointed out in our columns on Thursday, the aims of the Brigade are to enable local residents to render assistance in a capable and efficient manner, to reduce the suffering of the injured in time of accident, and to treat many of the simple ailments in the home. Free lectures are given under the auspices of the Brigade each Aveek, and in every possible way the members will assist those joining to become proficient in rendering first aid. An invitation is extended to those interested to join the Brigade and help in the humane work which the members are carrying out. The general public may display apathy toAvards the objects of the Order, but the moment an accident occurs at a football match, at a race meeting, at a sports gathering, or in the street, the cry goes ur>, “Where is the ambulance ? ” If the public expect the Brigade to render miblic service—and the members do this Avillingly and Avithout charge on every occasion possible —then it is up to the same public to get behind these volunteer Avofkers and' assist them by every possible means in their pOAver, and to encourage more members to link up Avith the Order.
