WAIRARAPA POWER BOARD.

if MONTHLY MEETING. (Special to “Daily Times.”) The monthly meeting of the Wairaxapa Power Board was held at Carterton this morning. There were present Messrs W. Benton, A. C. Pearce, H. P. Hugo, W. A. Tait, T. V. Moore, R. J. King and D. McLaehlan. Mr Benton was appointed chairman at this meeting owing to the absence of Mr Kershaw. Comparing the progress made this year with last year, the secretary-man-ager stated that new installations show 4*- an increase of 178, and additions an increase of 286. During the month there woro_ actually connected to the mains tiJC lighting points, 102 heating points, 7 electrie cookers, 7 water heaters, and 15 motors. Consumers number 3893, and a further 35 have signed up. v A number of debentures have beon for in connection with the Bideford loan. The Government Auditor is at present engaged auditing the balance-sheet for the year ended March 31st, 1929, and expects to complete the work in a day or so. The manager reported that Miss ,'Btanden, who has been employed in the ■ Carterton office since July, 1925, will leave the Board’s service on the 12th inst., in order to get married. Miss Stariden has served the Board very faithfully, and they were sorry to lose her services. The engineer reported that 15 services had been erected in the northern area during the month, and the e.h.t. line at Rangitumau completed, and all sendees erected and livened, but only a few installations have been ready for connection. Two extra 100 c.p. street lamps have ' been erected in Masterton. In the central area ten service connections have been erected, and the Carrington extensions completed. A survey has been made 'of the Harurua

road extension, and it is hoped to start

fwith this line in a few weeks’ time, 'when the overdue poles come to hand. Opossums making contact with P. .and Ti and road guard, and the e.h.t. on the Eringa road were responsible for two interruptions on the Longbush line. Guards are being erected on the- poles on this small portion of line to prevent the opossums climbing the poles. Trees have been cut back where necessary. In the southern area six service's were erected, and trees cut baißt where necessary at Underhill road. A shattered e.h.t. cut-out on the lightning arrester at the Knoll was the cause of a short.' shut-down on the MartinboroughPeatherston area on the 15th ultimo, at 9.25 p.m., and repairs were effected next day. A number of small interruptions havo been occurring on the Mangahao supply, lasting for approximately one or

two -.minutes, between the hours of 5 a.m. and 7 p.m., a time when interrupt'd,ions during milking cause grave in--Aionvenience to the dairy farmer. The Engineer at Mangahao has advised *hat everything possible is being done '"'to maintain continuity, but owing to insulator troublo the interruptions could not possibly have been avoided. The insulators of tho Wairarapa section been cleaned and overhauled, and it is hoped that interruptions have been eliminated. It./was decided to erect a high tension.
