THE YOUNG PLAN.
REFERENDUM SCHEME.
APPEAL TO PUBLIC. Press Association - Electric TelegMiph -CoDjriEr LONDON, Tuesday. “The Times” Berlin correspondent states that the Government is actively campaigning against the Nationalists’ Aioung Plan referendum scheme, which the Alinister of Justice, Herr von Guerard, in a broadcast speech, angrily denounced. He declared that the Young Plan’s rejection would mean reoecupation, and said the time had come when the German people must choose between commonsensc and nonsense.
Simultaneously the Government issued a statement summoning the public to reject the referendum. The statement was signed by all the members of the Cabinet, the Premiers of Prussia and other States, as well as eighty prominent men, including bankers and business men.
The statement emphasises that the whole of the “policy of understanding” initiated by Dr. Stresemann would be imperilled by the success of the referendum. The statement also exhorts the nation to abstain from participating in the referendum.—A. and N Z P.A.
