FEILDING CATTLE FAIR

A very heavy yarding of all classes of cattle was offered at the cattle fair. Taken all through, they were a good lot of well-bred cattle. Not many forward bullocks were offered, and the demand for these was pretty good, but other bullocks were slow of sale. A good many pens were passed. Young cattle were well competed for, but the prices realised were not quite up to expectations. A fair proportion was also passed in. Well-bred empty cows were in short supply and sold well. A big yarding of yearling Jersey heifers met with a very keen sale, all heifers showing any breeding selling at from £7 to £9 os. Well-bred forward bullocks realised £l2 10s, £l2 15s, £l3 os; forward Ilerefords and P.A., £ll 5s Gd to £l2 os; big framed store bullocks, Hereford and P.A., £l2 11s to £l2 16s; well-bred 3-year-old steers, £9 to £lO 17sj 2-year P.A. steers, £S 2s to £9 los 6d; 2-year Hereford steers, £7 16s to £S 13s Gd; well-bred 2-year Hereford heifers, £S 10s; ditto, P.A., £7 ISs to £S 10s; yearling P.A. steers, £7 11s Gd to £6 17s Gd; yearling Ilerefords, £6 17s; yearling P.A. heifers, £5 os to £7 10s (the latter price being for an exceptionally good line); yearling Hereford heifers, £5 to £5 14s ;6d; fresh conditioned Shorthorn empty cows, £7- ditto, P.A., £S 10s.
CARTERTON SALE. The W.F.C.A., Ltd., report as follows: —A heavy yarding of cattle and pigs was offered to the usual attendance of buyers. Good quality heifers close to profit were keenly sought after. All dairy sorts also sold well. Pigs sold on a par with recent sales, but good porkers showed a distinct advance. We report a total clearance as follows: — Springing heifers, £ll 10s, £lO 10s to £10; empty 2-year heifers, £5 os to £3 IGs; 4 p.b. Ayrshire yearling heifers, £6; other sorts, £4 17s Gd to £3; fat cows, £6 12s, £6 Gs to £5; weaner pigs, 235, 20s, 19s Gd, ISs to 17s; porkers, 295, 31s Gd, £2 12s to £2 19s; sundries at late sale rates.
Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report- on the Carterton sale as follows: —A good yarding of dairy cattle and pigs was submitted to a large attendance of farmers. Competition was on a par with recent sales, a clearance being effected at the following pi'ices: —Best springing dairy- heifers, to £l2 10s; medium sorts, £8 to £9; backward sorts, £6; store cows, £4» 17s Gd; good store pigs, 345; rough stores, 18s to 245. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report on the Carterton sale, held yesterday: —We offered a full yarding of cattle and pigs to a good attendance of buyers. There was a keen demand for springing heifers. Pigs also sold readily, in spite of the fact that the yarding was one of the heaviest seen for a long time.' The following are our realisations: Springing heifers, £ll 10s, £l2 to £l3 ss; springing cows, £7 to £10; fat cows, £7 to £S 12s Gd; weaner pigs, 16s, 17s Gd to 20s; slips, 2Ss; porkers, £2 3s.
