A FELL DEED.

OUR, RELUCTANT PREMIER. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An amusing incident occurred at Ngaturi on Saturday afternoon during the Premier’s visit for the opening of tho bridge. , Mr S. Bolton, County Chairman, handed Mr Coates a bottle of champagne with which to christen the new bridge. It was with , a show of reluctance that Mr Coates balanced tho bottle in his hand. “Haven’t you got an empty one?” he asked. Mr Bolton (Chairman): “Has any lady or gentleman got a dead marine? (Laughter). It’s got to be done ladies and gentlemen.” The Premier turned to- perform the fell deed, but again paused reluctantly. “Has anyone got a dixie?” lie asked, but no Digger could oblige. “Well, I don’t like doing it but we’ll have to christen this bridge thoroughly,” he remarked, as he aimed the fatal blow after several taps. Mr Coates also showed similar reluctance with a champagne bottle at Mangatainoka, saying: “It’s the hardest job I have had to do for a long time. I don’t like it a bit.” (Laughter).
