CAR GOES OVER BANK.

DRIVER INJURED. * (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AVANGANUI, Friday. , A three-seater motor car, driven by” T. J. Kerr, a traveller of Taumarunui, went over a bank on the AVangaehn Kill last evening. The driver had a miraculous escape from death. The accident occurred about ten o’clock. It was raining heavily at the time and the night was squally. Nearing the top of the hill the driver failed to see a sharp bend to the left owing to the poor visibility, and went straight ahead through a wire fence and over the bank. In its descent the car struck a small tree, the force of the impact throwing Kerr clear. The car then continued its career down the declivity, which is one of the steepest in the locality, and was damaged beyond repair. The lights of the ear were still burning when the vehicle came to a stop, and a service ear driver, who was passing, saw the beams of the light shining upwards from the gully. Assistance was procured at a neighbouring homestead, and an ambulance wa ssoon on the scene. Kerr was removed to the Public Hospital, where he is suffering from injuries to his neck and arms.

it has been suggested that the AVanganui County Council could arrange with the Power Board to install a red electric light at this point, where there have been so many accidents.
