TRAGIC END.

N OF CARTERTON WOMAN. > Mrs Adelaide Annie Wallis, wife of Mr Dean B. Wallis, of Carterton, was found dead at her residence yesterday morning, under circumstances which pointed to a tragic end. It appears that for some* months past Mrs Wallis had been troubled with 'ill-health, which at times made her very depressed. During the past week her husband had been out of town on a painting contract, and she had home with her the five children, whose ages range from G to 16 years. During the week she had been troubled with her throat, and had complained to relatives that this had caused her miserable nights. Yesterday morning she went about her duties in the usual way, and was last seen alive at 11 o’clock, then appearing to be in her usual spirits. She complained, however, that during 'the week her health had been 'bad and she missed her husband’s presence, at the same time remarking that she realised that her husband was away at liis work. Later she sent her little daughter with a newspaper to a neighbour, and the child on her return was engaged in peeling apples in the kitchen. When one of the lads returned from school, his sister informed him that she could not find her mother, and the lad, on searching the house, found her in the bedroom dead. It appears as if. the deceased, apparently in a temporary moment of intense depression, had tied a cord to the bed-post and around her neck, thus strangling herself.

The late Mrs Wallis was 48 years of age, and leaves a widower and family cf four boys and a daughter.
