SECONDARY EDUCATION.

WAIRARAPA BOARD. The monthly meeting’ of the Wairarapa Secondary Education Board was held last night, the chairman, Mr T. Jordan presiding. Apologies were received from Messrs H. M. Peacock and E. L. Holmwood. The chairman extended a welcome to Mr W. H. Jackson, who took his seat for the first time as representative of the Trust Lands Trust. The Principal of the High School (Dr. G. 11. Uttley) reported that the school roll number totalled 304 —girls 116 and boys 1S8; There were 52 boarders and three day boarders. The concert arranged by the Sixth Form resulted in £2B being handed over to the Assembly Hall Fund. Mrs T. R. Barrer said that the pupils were to be congratulated on making a beginning with the Assembly Hall Fund. Dr. Uttley reported that Mr R. A. Cameron, Dreyor’s Bock, had donated two miniature cups to the High School, to be won outright by the winners of the junior and senior shooting championships. It was decided to thank Mr Cameron for his donations. Dr. Uttley also reported that a donation of £ls had been made by the Wairarapa Rugby Union, to be expended for football purposes. It was suggested that the money should be used for defraying the travelling expenses of Rugby teams. A rough sketch plan of the swimming baths proposed at the High School was tabled. It was decided that Mr Compton, chairman of the Works Committee, confer with the Borough Engineer (Mg Mabson) on the matter.

The provision of library accommodation at the Technical School was referred to the works committee for a report.

The purchase of certain minor tools and equipment for the Technical School was authorised. Mrs Barrer brought up the question of the arrangement made with the Principal of the High School regarding the control of School House. The secretary was instructed to write to the Minister of Education requesting his authority to pay £SO per annum to the Principal for his administration of the hostel.
