TRAGIC END.
TO A PICNIC PARTY. MAN AND BOY DROWNED. I . (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, Thursday. The drowning of Claude Mulvan-ey, married,, of Auckland, and Howard Bernard Loft, the nine-year-old son of a - West mere family, formed a tragic end to a picnic party’s outing on the river to-day. Mulvaney and his wife were spending a holiday with the Lofts, and with Mrs' Loft and the latter’s four children, went for a holiday outing. The - deceased boy was bathing when he stepped over a ledge into deep water and got into- difficulties. Though Mulvaney was not a swimmer he went to his assistance. Both sank out of sight but two other children, who were also in trouble, were saved by their mother. The bodies were recovered by the police half an hour later. The boy was found tightly clasped in Mulvancv’s arms.
