TOLL OF DEATH. AMERICAN FIGURES. Pi es J Association -Electric Telegraph-Copyright. NEW YORK, Thursday. The “New York World” states that statistics just published by the Department of Health disclose that 770 persons were killed by liquor in 1927. New York City lias the greatest number of any year since the Volstead Law was enacted, and more deaths than in any of the ten preceding wet years. The rate of deaths due to alcoholism in 1927 was Li per 100,000, or slightly more than the rate of measles in peak rears.
