DROWNING ACCIDENT.
CHILD LOSES LIFE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON, Saturday. A drowning accident occurred at Kina Beach, near Tasman, yesterday morning, when Charles Morris Brooks, 4 h years of age, became separated from his parents in an attempt' to return to the mainland after being cut off by the tide. Deceased Avas a son of Mr and Mrs Charles Brooks, visitors from Blenheim, who were staying Avith their parents at Tasman.’ A party of five —Mr and Mrs Brooks, deceased, and a brother and an uncle, Mr J.. T. Kilbrain—Avent out on to a gravel patch for the purpose of fishing. At about 10.30 the party was surrounded by the incoming tide, which they had failed to notice. The father, his wife and deceased attempted to get ashore, Mr Brooks, Avho could SAvim, assisting his Avife and son. The child became separated from its parents and could not be recovered, n.ot being seen again. Mr Brooks and his wife managed to reach the shore, and the remainder of the party were rescued afterwards.
At an inquest a A-crdict of accidental death Avas returned.
