NEW YEAR’S DAY MEETING.

Tt is expected that a record crowd will assemble at the Park Oval oil Monday for the fifty-second annual ■■ sports gathering of the Wairarapa' Caledonian Society. * Dancers 'and pip*; * ers from many parts of the Dominion will be competing. In tho athletic and ' ‘ cycling events there should be some'-' exciting finishes. Between 40 and 50 entries have been received, and with champion R. A. Rose in fiat distance events and the Oakley brothers in the cycling events, a great afternoon’s % sport is assured. The ambulance events have" attracted entne* from Newmarket (Auckland) Rail~*'s. Wellington Harbour Board, Auckland City, St. John Ambulance (Wellington) and the ever-ready Master ton-Waingawa detachment. The Petone Pipe Band j will make their first visit to Masterton, and will play on the Park Oval during the day. The day’s festivities will conclude with a Scots concert in St. Matthew’s Parish Hall. Admission to the Park on Monday is Is with a seat in the pavilion Is . extra. Mr Walter E. Knott has published a very fine illustrated Souvenir Programme of , the day’s doings. The publication will be on sale on Monday morning. .
