With Aussie, Nancy Lee, Money Order, and Joy King out of the Electric Handicap at Auckland yesterday, Eulalie was ;r red-hot order, Cimabue being a very solid second favourite. Cimabue was first out, but I’aganelli showed great brilliancy, and ran past him before a furlong had been covered, and led round the turn, Cimabue being closely attended by Dave, and then Eulalie, Royal Damon, and Paperehase. Eulalie lost ground on the turn, and Paganelli led into the straight from Cimabue, Dave, Royal Damon, Paperchase, and then Eulalie. Cimabue tackled Paganelli outside the last tnrlong post, and beat him home bv bvo lengths. Paperehase was a similar distance away third, with Royal Damon a good fourth, and then Eulalie and Receipt. Cimabue scored very decisively. and was always going like a winner. Paganelli showed phenomenal pace, but failed to stay. The southern mares, Paperehase and Receipt, both came from the rear of the field, and will be suited by an extra furlong, as will Royal Damon, who ran a fine race without holding a winning chance.

Maudnne was favourite for the Summer Cup at the Auckland meeting yesterday. Joy King, Pcgaway, and Mosaic were solidly supported. Day Guard, Gala Day, Joy King, In the Shade, and Mandane were the early lenders, and down the back Gala Day and Day Guard"drew out from Joy King, In the -Shade, Alosaic, Cohesion, and Mandane, Pcgaway and King Lu bringing up the rear. The field closed up entering the straight, and in the run to the post Pcgaway and Mandane drew right out, Mandane just squeezing home by a head, with Pcgaway going much the better of the pair. In the Shade was four or five lengths

back, just showing out from Battlement, Joy King, Cohesion, King Lu, and Gala Day. Pegawav was very unlucky at the start. He cannoned into Battlement and lost a good deal of ground, being last out of the straight. Consequently, he had too much leeway to make up. Even then only the judge could decide the winner, Mandane’s finishing run was very brilliant. The ofiicial verdict was two lengths and a half, but In the Shade was nearly five lengths back. Joy King was going like a winner for a mile, but he failed to stay on over the last quarter.

Lysander was a firm favourite in the mile weight-for-age event at Auckland yesterday, which lie won last year. Martarma and Aussie were even second favourites. '’Aussie led out of the barrier and made the pace from Lysander, Gascony, and Grand Knight bunched, with Martarma three lengths further back. Martarma tried to get up on the rails at the six-furlong post and got knocked back, losing four or five lengths. Running to the half-mile, Aussie had Gascony on his quarters and Lysander and Grand Knight were losing ground. Aussie turned for home just in front of Gascony, with Martarma making a good run. Fifty yards from the post it looked as if Gascony might get Aussie, who had had enough, but he lasted to win by three parts of a length. Alartarma was two lengths and a half back third and further back Lysander and Grand Knight were together last. Aussie accomplished a brilliant performance, although lie was done at the finish, and was being overhauled by Gascony. The latter, who got knocked from pillar to post in the Railway Handicap, was still a bit sore, but he ran a fine race, and is coining to his best form.. Wiggins rode Martarma with poor judgment, which invoked an official rebuke after the race. He may not have won, but he would have made the finish much more interesting. He lost the winning margin attlic six furlong post. Lysander aiut Grand Knight ran bad races.
