COSY THEATRE. •‘You Never Know Women’’ will be screened for the first time to-night at the Cosy Theatre. The story shows a Russian troupe of players, headed by Vera dun ova and Ivan Norodiu awaiting the arrival of Vera. -She is late and when she hurries to her room, she explains that she was saved from death by a nice gentleman. The gentleman has followed her and when the curtain goes up is interested in her performance. During the show he makes Lis way back stage and introduces himself. A era is very glad to see him, but Ivan, in love wvith Vera, is angry at the attentions of the stranger. The attentions of the stranger persist, however, much to the anger of Ivan and the disgust of the rest of the troupe. Vera, however, is much taken with Norodiu and decides to let them have theil love. At one "of his most hazardous stunts, that of releasing himself from handcuffs, chains and a box under water, performed as a publicity stunt before a huge crowd, he fails to come up. \ era, who has hastened to the scene, collapses and that night it is a sad troupe that treads the boards as the curtain rises. It may be only a coincidence, but. just before starting work on “A Fighting Peacemaker, ’ LniversalBlue Streak Western Picture play which is to bo screened at the Opera House, commencing to-night, Jack Iloxic received an odd present from a convict doing a life term in San Quentin .Prison in California. The coincidence is this: Hoxie, who is starring i:i “A Fighting Peacemaker ’ in the role of “Peace’ ’ River .Parker, does a four and a half year stretch for a crime he did not commit, so the present is a gift from one convict to another. The gift in question is a beautifully wrought silver ring made from a silver dollar. It really is a rare example of silversmithiug, showing that the prisoner who made it evidently had some knowledge of the art before he began his long stretch. True, it makes a huge ring, but Hoxie is a big man and therefore it does not look out of place on him. When making pictures, especially in those scenes where he has to do battle with other players, Hoxie removes the ring. On the finger of a clenched fist it would make a dangerous weapon, particularly when that fist has behind it the power and force of a Hoxie. Iloxic knows the history and name of his convict admirer, but prefers to keep it secret. Suffice it to say that the prisoner in question is an admirer of Jack’s screen "work, being a regular attendant at prison entertainments when Hoxie pictures are shown.
