NEXT MONDAY’S GATFLi\^fc'G.
In addition to the piping and dancing events to be decided at the sports gathering on Monday next (New Year’s Day) the athletic and cycling events promise some interesting finishes, and the 100. 220 and 440 yards flat races have attracted large entries. In the mile event, it is expected that R. A. Rose, fresh from his triumphs in tho Australasian championships, will add further to his laurels. The cycle events over the distances of half, one, two, and three miles are likely to provide some thrills. There will be races for the children and, generally, Monday’s function promises to be one of the best in the history of the Caledonian Sovciety. The Petone Pipe Band will play on the Park Oval during the day, and the usual Scots’ concert will be given in St. Matthew's Hall in the evening.
