DEVASTATED FRANCE.
WORK OF RESTORATION. PARIS, Friday. It was announced in the Senate that 3,800,000 claims in the devastated areas had been settled, and there are 5.00,000 remaining. The population is now 1,64(3,000, compared with 2,073,000 at the time of the Armistice, and 4,790,000 before the war. Public buildings rebuilt number 13,236. while 7000 schools have been almost entirely re-established. Communications have been improved compared with the pre-war conditions. An area of 7,400,000 acres of shellfilled land is'now being cultivated. Restoration will be completed in 1929.—‘ ‘ The Times. ’ ’
