IRISH TENANTS.
PAYMENTS BY BRITISH. LONDON, Thursday. In the House of Lords, the Marquess of Salisbury announced with regard to Irish tenants that the Government had decided that the absolute maximum payable to tenants be £400,000, though the total recommended by the Grants Committee was largely' in, excess of this. The Government had now decided to pay the first £250 of all awards' in full, 50 per cent, of any excess up to £IOOO, and thereafter 30 per cent. The money would be paid forthwith, the new total being £625,000, which’ is £225,000 in excess of the original maximum.—A.P.A. and “Sun.”
