WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY

MEETING OF COUNCIL. (Special to “Daily Times.”) The monthly meeting of the Wairaliipa South County Council was held at Carterton yesterday, there being present: —Crs. T. V. Moore (chairman), .1. Hodder, C. Reid. D. McGregor, C. A. Cameron. F. C. Cotter and W. A. Ronall. Accounts totalling £1932 Os 2d were passed for payment. j| -was decided that the County office be dosed for the holidays from Monda v, December 20th, to January I.lth, both days inclusive. The overseer was authorised to place pipes in the water-race on Rutland road. The tender of W. Lb McCalmont at £2OO was accepted for the Waitangi bridge (concrete) and approaches on Para road.. Inspector McGregor was granted leave of absence to attend a conference at Napier in January, and was allowed £1 towards the expenses. The .Feat herstou County Council wrote offering to contribute d per cent of' the Wairarapa South County Council's share of the cost of the Kokotau bridge. Air A. Major, on behalf of several settlers along the Waiohine JJlufif road, wrote asking that necessary work be carried out on this road. —Held over until next meeting. The Carrington water-race overseer reported having carried out general maintenance work and cutting grass along the sides. Tlie Taratahi water-race overseer reported that during the month the intake has been cleaned out. Three slips luive been removed in the main race, and another two have come down. Leaks have been repaired. General cleaning has been carried out. The Alt. Holdsworth Club wrote thanking the Council for its co-opera-tion in helping to make the road better to the mountain reserve. A Government grant of £25 on a £ for £ basis lias been made for expenditure on this road, and the matter has been left to the overseer. Air G. W. Kempton is to be given 21 davs J notice to clean out the swamp drain. The overseer was given authority to repair a portion of Bond s road, and also at West Taratahi, on Chester road. Repairs are to be carried out on Watcrsou's line.
