Similar scenes to those in London ■were witnessed in Paris, where four hundred persons were sent to hospital, some with serious fractures and four or five fatally injured as the result of skating in the frozen streets. Midnight revellers at Montmarte found their taxis unable to move. Hundreds of vehicles were backed against the kerbs to prevent their sliding down hill. The morning milk and the newspapers were not delivered owing lo the impossibility of walking or driving. One motor car skidded the full width of the road on to the footpath killed a woman and injured four other persons. Hundreds of vehicular crashes are reported throughout the city.
