NAVAL ARMAMENT.
BRITAIN MUST BUILD. TO MEET IMPERIAL NEEDS. Press Association-Electric Telegruph-Copyrigh (Received Thursday, 9.0 a.m.) LON DO N, Wed n esday. Lord Sydenham, in a letter to “The Times,” says:—The huge naval programme submitted to Congress must be viewed as a psychological portent. It must react upon the attitude and policy of all nations. Our own course is clear. We must continue to build only to meet Imperial needs. Another conference would necessarily be superfluous. America’s unexpected action must prove widely disturbing and impede the gradual reduction ol: armaments. —“The Times. ’ ’ NO COMPARISON POSSIBLE. (Received Thursday, 11.50 a.m.) LON DON, Wednesday. Lt.-Colonel lleadlam, in reply To a question, in the House of Commons, said that until further details were available of the United States’ new programme, and the dates ot construction were obtained, no comparison between British and American naval strengths for five voars hence could be made.
