RIVAL AWARDS.

JUDGE’S NEW SCHEME. SYDNEY, Monday. Tn the "Federal Arbitration Court, counsel for the Commonwealth Steamship Owners' Association applied for a direction from the court to the Queensland branch of the Waterside Workers’ .Federation to cease breaking the Queensland State award. It was pointed out that the Queensland watersiders were covered by a State award, but the watersiders of this State did not propose to join them in that award. The secretary of the Queensland branch of tho Federation said that his branch did not want the Federation to interfere in State awards. The two awards were not connected. Judge Beeby ruled that the Queensland State award was outside the jurisdiction of the Federal Arbitration Court and he refused to give the direction sought. Judge Beeby added that he proposed to submit a scheme to the watersiders and the owners of the Commonwealth for expediting the handling of cargo, payment to be on a basis of the quantities handled.
