DEATH ON STEAMER.

PLAGUE SUSPECTED. .BRISBANE, Saturday. When the steamer Roseric arrived at Townsville from Mexico it was reported that one of the crew had died. The disease was reported to be typhus fever, but inquiries showed that this was probably not so. Two rats from'the vessel were sentto the Institute of Tropical Medicine, where* they were found to contain a bacilli resembling those of plague. The chief quarantine officer states that steps have been taken in the direction of safety, and the vessel lias been anchored out pending further investigations.
