POPULAR COUNTY CLERK.
PRESENTATION FROM COUNCIL. ON OCCASION OF MARRIAGE. At a suitable break in the business of the Finance Committee of the Masterton County Council this mornirg, opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Mr .1. C. D. Macklev, County Clerk, in honour of his approaching marriage, which will fake place on Wednesday. Mr W. I. Armstrong, chairman, in a few well-chosen words, referred to the excellent choice made by the County when they appointed Mr Macklev as clerk. He had rendered excellent service, and did everything he could in the interests of the County. Now that Mr Macklev was going to be married, they wished him and his future wife every success and happiness. On behalf of the Masterton County Council, he presented Mr Macklev with a complete dinner service. The health of Mr Mackley # ?ml the bride-elect was drunk with musical honours. Mr Macklev, in responding, thanked the Council for their handsome present. He appreciated the remarks of the chairman, and said that the cleric could do little without the support of the Council. He thanked the councillors for the many kindnesses he had received since being appointed as clerk. Other toasts honoured were those of the “Masterton County Council” (responded toby Cr. 11. 11. Mawley), and “The Press.”
