NEW GIVEN NOTICE.

IN METAL TRADE. NO WORK UNTIL NEW YEAR. Piesi Association-Electric Telegraph-Copyright. SYDNEY, Friday. Twenty thousand employees in the metal trades have been given a week’s notice by the employers that there will be no work after Friday next until the New Year. The notice was issued to-day, as, under the weekly hiring system, if it is not issued, the employers will be liable for a week’s wages whether the work is done or not. The secretary of the Metal Trades Employers’ Association states that a large number will not be rc-engagod, as the metal trade has never been in a worse state of slackness than at present.
