MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

POLLING ATMASTERTON. MR JORDAN ELECTED MAYOR. Tlxc five elections field in Mastertoii yesterday produced keen v oting, and everything' from an arrangement- point of view passed off successfully. A little after S o’clock, the results of the mayoralty and half-holiday polls were announced by the returning -officer (Mr R. Brown), there being only a small attendance of the public, due to the wet weather. It was not till about 11 -o’clock-that the final resuls of the elections were announced. Mr Jordan had an easy victory m the Mayoralty, while Mr McLaren and Mrs Fletcher replaced Messrs Kemp and Heaps on the Borough Council. Airs Fletcher is the first woman councillor to be elected in Masterton. Messrs T. E. Barrel- and T. Moss, the sitting members, retained their places on the "Wellington Harbour Board. Mr E. -I. King was returned at the top of the poll for the Wairarapa Power Board, on which he hasdield a seat since the inception of the board. Mr H. P. Hugo was elected the second representative of tile borough to the seat vacated by Air Jordan', who filled the office after the disqualification of Mr J. C. Cooper. Messrs AV. H. Heaps and T. F. A\ atson, two new candidates, were unsuccessful. Tli(> following was the voting recorded on the various issues:— MAYORAL ELECTION.

At the declaration of the Mayoral election result, the candidates returned thanks. ' Mr Jordan said he had done his best, and he intended to continue that policy. He called for cheers for Mr Ripp-on, who, he said, had still oue more river to cross. \ “I am not downhearted,” said Mr Rippon, amid cheers from a section of the crowd. There was a position vacant in the borough, and two good men had applied for it. Mr Jordan, he said, had received the confidence of the electors for his past services. This lie was justly entitled to. Mr Rippon thanked the electors for their support, and stated that his ardour for the welfare of Masterton would not fade, and he would endeavour to do his best as lie had done in the past. RESULTS IN OTHER CENTRES. ; GREYTOWN. > The election of councillors for the Greytown Borough Council resulted in the return of Messrs W. R. F. Allen, R. H. Anker, F. Dennes, J. B. Eaton, J. Farley, L. Groathead, A. W. Horton, W. A. Tate and A. Y. Viles. The defeated candidate was Mr T. B. Heaphv. EKETAHUNA, The Borough Council election resulted: —H. E. Greathea.il. 240, S. H.
