PERSONAL ITEMS.

Air and Airs H. ’H. S. Ryder, of Tilnil returned yesterday from a trip to England. The Rev. John Davie, who lias been on a visit to tihe South Island, returned to Aiasterton. to-day.

. Aliss Allan, recently appointed matron of the Masterton Alethodist Chil dren’s Home, has taken iup her du ties. .

The death occurred at Te Whiti yesterday of Alakere Rein, at the age of 62 years. The late Mrs Makcre Reiri was the mother of seventeen children, Sof whom survive her. Her husband predeceased her some years ago. The funeral will itake place at Te Whiti to-morrow.

Messrs V. £E. Donald and H. E. Hart, who have, been wild game hunting in South' Africa for the past seven months, returned to New Zealand yesterday, and Mr Donald came on to Aiasterton last evening. Air Haft is expected home to-day. Both are in good health and have had a wonderful experience, having had the good fortune toencounter almost every kind of animal prized by the big game hunter. The Alinistcr of Lands (Hun. A. D. AleLeod) will leave for Wanganui tomorrow to attend a meeting of farmers which proposes to discuss the difficulties under which farming is carried on.- The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. O. J. Hawken), who is leaving Wellington tq-dav, will also attend the gathering. On Friday Air AlcLeod will proceed to Gisborne, where, in company with the Under-Secretary of Lands (Air J'. B. Thompson), he is to make an inspection of the Te Wera block, which was by the Government some time ago for closer settlement purposes.
