FIGHT AGAINST PESTS.
EARWIG PARASITES. DESTRUCTION OF BLACKBERRY. (Received Monday, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, Tuesday. The entomologist. Dr. Tilly a rd, has s'ailod by the Corinthie, taking with him 25p parasites of earwigs, intended to destroy earwigs in New Zealand. The parasites'are scarce in the present year, necessitating l)r. Tillyard searching throughout Europe. They cost a shilling each. - • - ~ „ , '' lie is als’o taking several kinds of insects, with which it is hoped to destroy blackberry and brambles. Before they are liberated they will be tested to ascertain their effect on other plants. (It was announced some months ago that a movement was on foot to obtain earwig parasites in England to liberate iii New Zealand.)
