BRUTAL CRIME.
GIRL DONE TO DEATH. MURDERER ATTEMPTS SUICIDE. Tress Association- Elecfrio Telegraph-Copyright.. MELBOURNE, Friday. The mutilated body of Emma Hill, 17 years old, -was found by the police on the banks of the Yarra. The discovery was made.at the result of the statements of George Dcvitt, aged 27, who in the early hours of the morning hailed a taxi-cab and told the driver he wanted to ;be driven to a police station. Levitt ’s' throat had been cut, and he was covered in blood ■when he arrived at the station. lie told the police ho had left a girl dead near the river, after cutting her throat and then cutting his own. _ After several hours’ search the police found the girl’s body. There were evidences of a desperate struggle, and examination revealed that even utter the girl’s throat had been hacked she had been subjected to outrageous treatment. The girl had been in the habit ' of' going out with Levitt, hot had lately told him that She did not want to go with hini again. After this repulse, Levitt (who is in hospital and guarded bv the police) became moody, and wrote to the girl and arranged the meeting last night.
