Several horses were evenly backed in the Empire Handicap at Feilding yesterday, Alonagkau being supported with a little more confidence than most of the others. The race was an easy one f«r Alonaghan, who was well clear going along the back, and led across the top from 'Pencils, with Bonogne making up ground steadily. Alonaghan was first into the straight, and she went on to win by fi\o lengths from Pencils', who beat Bonogne by a short neck, with Aeriform finishing fast alongside Bonogne and Kilmiss fifth. As ithe going, though more sloppy, was not so sticky as on the previous day, the top-weight, Glenross, was sent out favourite for the St. Andrews Handicap at Feilding yesterday, and Indian Sago and Killoch were better backed than any of the others. Several of the field were bad at the post, and Indian Sage and Joy Bird got a\\‘ay badly. Glenross began well under his big weight, and was immediately taken 'to the front, leading through the straight from Kilfaire and Glengariff, with Hipo and Joy Bird nicely placed among the others. Once the final run was undertaken, Glenross drew away and a hundred yards off the post was several lengths in front. He was eased, and then won by a couple of lengths from Joy Bird, who was a neck to the good of Merry Day, who, as usual, finished very fast. Kilfajre was fourth, Killoch and Indian Sage next, and then Hipo. Joy bird bolted a mile before the start of the race.

Charlady, Princess Eonnio, Aurumavis and Mosaic were the leading division across the top, with Euapapa coming from the middle of the field. \ Princess Eonnie was clear of Charlady and Aurumavis at the home turn, with Euapapa making a fast run.
