THEFT AND ASSAULT.
ACCUSED SENT TO GAOL. (By Teicgrauh.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Donald Sutherland Murray Grant, a labourer, aged 33, pleaded guilty, before • Mr Page, S.M., to the theft of £24, the property of John William Davies, and assault on Detective Kane in the exefek fiition' of his duty. ■ Chief-Detective Ward said that the accused was 1 given money to purchase a horse and cart, but disappeared. Jlc •was located 'by Detective Kane in a hotel, and was asked to go with, rae detective to the office. He went a few yards and then struck Kane. He had to be held down, and -• handcuffed. He was a man of a very vicious disposition, and had a long list - of convictions for false pretences and theft. He was sentenced to three months on the first charge, and to one mouth on the second, the charges to be cumulative.. '
