The friends of Mr Balph Bartlett, will reyret to learn of his death, which occurred at the Public Hospital, last night. The deceased was 65 years of age. He. had been d resident of Masterton for many years, and was highly respected. His wife predeceased him some years ago. There was no family. The funeral will leave the residence of Mrs B. P. An Auckland Press Association message reports the death of Mrs. Kate MeCosh Clark, aged 79, the widow of J. McCosh Clark, ivho was Mayor of Auckland from ISBO to ISS3. She wrote a number of works on Maori folklore as well as books of poetry.

As an expression of their appreciation of the work he had done as secretary during the past season, the members of the Masterton Golf Club last evening presented Mr. H. P. Hugo with a case of pipes. In making the presentation Mr. H. G Williams (the president) stated that Mr. Hugo had made an outstandnig success of the position. Mr. A. H. Tocker, who has been appointed Professor of Economics at Canterbury College, was at one time for some years first assistant at the Mangatainoka School, during the headof Mr. G. W. Cliatwin, now rSPed, a -Press Association message from Pahiatua states. It is added that Mr. Tocker’s friends arc very much pleased to learn of his important appointment. Mr. Tocker is a fine athlete.

A message has been received in Hamilton reporting the death in England on Thursday last of Mrs. Chcrrington, wife of the Bishop-elect of 'Waikato. The announcement caused widespread regret. A wireless message of condolence has been despatched, conveying the sympathy of the diocese to the Bishop who is travelling on the Maheno and will reach Auckland on Thursday. Mrs. Cherrington has been in impaired health for some time, suffering from rheumatism.

The New Zealand delegates to the Empire Parliamentary Congress, the Hon. J. Barr, and Messrs J. S. Dickson, W. A. Veitch and M. J. Savage, returned to Auckland by the Ulimaroa from Sydney last night after an ab--Jhe of eleven weeks. They were <'JThusiastic about the warmth of the reception received in Australia, and .-aid every facility was given them to •gain all possible information about the -country.-
