BURGLARS FOILED.

SAFE RESISTS EXPLOSIVE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. During the New Year holidays burglars entered the offices of Packer and Jones, builders and timber merchants. Churchill street, and attempted to blow up the safe. By smashing a window at the rear o-f the place, the intruders made their way to the- manager 'is office. Ramming gelignite into the keyhole of the safe, they made a clumsy and unsuccessful attempt to burst it open. The only damage done- to the safe was a fairly dee]) dent on the side and. the shattering of the door handle and fittings. !
