Wairarapa Daily Times. [ESTABLISHED OVER 50 YEARS.] FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11, 1925. CECILIA WHATMAN HOME.

There will 'be oilicinlly opened in Afasterton to-morrow afternoon, by tin* Prime the’ 'Cecilia Whatman Home, which has been presented to the Salvation Army by Mr. A. P. Whatman, of Masterton. The home is one of the finest of its kind in the Dominion, and will ever stand out as a monument to the generosity of the donor, who has, by his gift, made life, brighter and better for scores of children, who will not only have a. better home than would perhaps otherwise be the case, but will have every opportunity under the care and guidance, of the Salvation Army officers of becoming good- and useful citizens. During the war and post-war period Mr. Whatman displayed a spirit of generosity and loyalty second to none jn this Dominion, but his crowning gift has.been the Home, which will prove a haven of rest and a temple, of instruction ffiany hundreds, of children in time wifi be given a start on the right road in life. 'This is not Mr. Whatman’s first gift to the children of New Zealand, as on a former occasion he gave a beautiful house in the Bay of Islands to the Salvation Army to bo used as a home for children. The Dominion in general and the Wairarapa in particular, cannot do too much honour to such a worthy citizen as Mr. Whatman, and we trust that appreciation of Mr. Whatman 's' generosity will be forthcoming in a record attendance, at the opening ceremony- tomorrow. _
