A DC PLANT GROUP. (Received Thursday, 10.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A definite split in the Labour movement is threatened on the deportation issue. Dissension is rampant in the ranks of the industrialists on the. question ot whether action should be taken to resist the deportation. A. special meeting of the Transport Group flouted the direction of the State Labour Council that a mass sto 11work meeting of members of all unions affiliated with the group should be called for to-day. The proposal was rejected, the delegates declining to carry out the Council’s orders. This action will be discussed at a meeting of the Council to-night, when attempts will be made to over-ride the Group’s decision, and -compel the Unions comprising the Group to carry out the wishes of the Council. The defiant attitude of the Group is expected to induce some members of the Labour Council to urge the enforcement of tlio' clause of the Council’s constitution providing for the suspension or expulsion of refractory unions. An interesting feature of the dispute is that the seamen have led the section that favours inaction with reference to deportation, their principal reason being that the allied unions are not prepared to give- any guarantees of support.—P.A. APPEAL FOR FUNDS. (Received Thursday. 1.1.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Labour Council is appealing to the unions for funds to carry on the deportation cases, as it lias not enough in hand to continue another day.—P.A
