SANTA BARBARA QUAKE.
A FAULT LOCATED. NEW YORK, Thursday. Despite renewed shocks, reconstruction continues apace at 'Santa Barbara. Engineers have discovered a fault where the ’quake originated four miles in-shore from the city. The fault runs directly underneath the famous Santa Barbara Spanish Catholic Mission, which was completely wrecked in 1812. It appears that Monday’s ’quake followed almost the same fissure, earth and rock dropping away towards the sea four feet. The citizens of San Francisco have taken out fifteen millions sterling in earthquake insurance since the Santa Barbara disaster. —Sun.
