Wairarapa Daily Times [Established 50 Years.] MONDAY, MAY 4, 1925. THE COUNTRY WOMEN.

There is need in the Dominion of a Country Women '>s Association similar to those in Australia and other parts of the Empire. In many rural districts it is unhappily, only too true that what may be termed the social equipment to meet the special needs of women is either inadequate or non-existent. Apart from this, the environment is often enough provocative of stagnation through limitation of interests, and that tedium, which seems to settle like a blight on individual lives when robbed of the stimulation afforded by contact with others. country women’s association merely succeeded in encouraging the development of common interests among women in isolated districts it would accomplish something of great value ,for these are, of course, possible of great extension. Among townspeople there exists great sympathy with country women and a very real desire to help them. The main trouble of the city and the town has been to know what to do and how to do it. But a country women’s association points the 'way and gives opportunity for generous, practical eo-peration. There is a national side to the work of an. organisation such as the country women and this would invest it with a’ dignity and significance which cannot be obscured by the consideration of purely ''local matters and details of The concentration of people in towns and cities is one of the striking features of modern times common to moat countries in the world. Innumerable schemes for brightening and humanising the life of the farmer and his family and employee have been brought .forward, but they have mostly failed because there was not - an institution such as a country women’s association to assist. A country women’s association can rightly be "regarded ns an instrument of progress, improvement and enlightenment. and we trust that the day is not far distant when, such an association, with branches throughout the country, will come into being in the Dominon.
