PRINCE OF WALES.

ARRIVAL IN SOUTH AFRICAWELCOME AT CAPE TOWN. CAPE TOWN, Thursday. South African crowds arc not noted for demonstrative enthusiasm, but it is generally admitted n that the Prince’s welcome far surpasses, anything previously experienced. The illuminations are on a scale hitherto unknown. The principal streets are a dense mass of Europeans, coloured natives and Indians, mingling in common enthusiasm. It was remarked during the morning that the Prince’s famous smile was not so much in evidence as usual, but his demeanour and affability generally made tho happiest impression. Undoubtedly the long-looked-for visit commenced under the most favourable auspices. The Prince was installed as Chancellor of Cape Town University.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
