SOUTHERN PRODUCE.
WHEAT QUIET,
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, Tuesday.
A period of quietness lias been experienced during the week in commercial circles with regard to wheat, in respect of which millers are paying 6s 3d. The position is that very little is being offered, although large quantities are stated to be stacked in sacks in various parts of the province. The drop of 6d in the price has- caused farmers to think seriously, and is causing them toadopt a go-slow policy, as far as selling is concerned. A miller said to-day, “Farmers wonder why the price of flour is not being reduced, but the position is that it will not be brought downs while .the growers refused to sell at tho prices at present offered for wheat.” The latest quotation for fowl wheat is 6s 6d prompt f.0.b., and 6s 3d for) April-Soptember delivery. This price,, however, is really between merchants.. Many farmers think that second gradff wheat constitutes fowl wheat, but such, is not actually the case, fowl wheat being that which fails to .pass the grader, and is, in consequence, classified a* fowl wheat.
