CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The forty-ninth annual meeting of members of the Wairarapa. Caledonian Society was held last night, Mr John Mackenzie (president) presiding over a good attendance of members. A letter was received from the Town Clerk, advising that the rent, of the Social Hall had beeri reduced to £5. — It was decided to send a letter of thanks to the Council. The Borough Council also wrote advising that the rent of the Bark Oval could not be reduced. —Members did not agree with this ? ns other societies had been allowed rent free as their sports had not been successful, and the New Year sports showed a loss of £6B. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, members expressing appreciation of the very successful year experienced. The secretary was commended for reducing expenses in various directions. It was resolved that the whole of the assets be revalued with a view to putting them on a sure footing. Mr Cameron said a piper from Scotland would settle in Mastcrton and take charge of the pipe band, also teach piping if he could get a position. Appreciation was expressed at tht directors allowing non-members to attend the ingleside. This was the means of bringing several new members to the society.

January, 1926, being the 50th year of the Society, it was intended to put ou a. big sports programme. Mr Cameron said two members had promised him £SO towards a Bipe Band contest or Bipe Band event. It was mentioned that Wanganui, Napier and Wellington had between them four Bipe Bands, and no doubt these would attend. The offer was accepted with thanks. Mr Cameron also suggested a wrestling event. He thought he could get assistance towards the prize money.
