METHODIST CHURCH.

WOMEN’S MISSIONARY UNION

The Masterton branch of the 'Methodist Women’s Missionary Union met in the schoolroom on Thursday. There was a large attendance, presided over by the Rev. W. Beckett. Mrs. White, recently from Hastings, was cordially welcomed, and letters were received from Sister Eleanor Lobby (Maori Deaconess), Sisters Common and Jones (Solomon Islands) and the Rev. Metcalfe (Solomons). The missionary boxes were opened, the contents amounting to £9 15s fid, not so much as usual, but many boxes have yet to come in.

Interesting reports from Sisters Common and Barnett and the Revs. Le Benet and Dent (all of the Solomons) were read, showing that good work was being done, but that the need was great and all the help that could be sent would be most gratefully received. Mrs. Weller contributed a pianoforte solo and Misses Jackson and E. Jones vocal items.

Votes of sympathy were passed to Mrs. J. Elliott in her sad bereavement and to Mrs. Beckett, Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Donald, senr., in their illness. A meeting was held in the Kuripuni. Methodist Church on Thursday evening to make arrangements to welcome the new minister, the Rev. Reginald Grice. It was decided to hold a social in the church next Thursday evening, when addresses of welcome will be given and a musical programme submitted.
